There are instances when artifacts (Documents, templates, videos, etc.) require annotations.
- “Annotation Competency Indicators” define the quality of the annotations you are required to complete.
- Annotations must be completed using the BoomBoard annotation tool.
- Educators can “Annotate a point” or “Annotate a section” in a file (document or template).
- Educators can “Annotate a time” in a video.
- Educators can “tag an indicator” in a file or video. In some cases, educators may be required to tag an indicator as per the “Annotation Competency Indicators”.
BloomBoard Template / File Annotation Tool
STEP 1. In the Build Artifacts (Exercise) section, complete the artifact and upload using the "Upload Artifact/s" button.
STEP 2. When annotations are required, you will see two options: “Annotate a point” or “Annotate a section”.
STEP 3. Click on the location where you want to annotate a point, or click and drag the annotation selection box to highlight a section.
STEP 4. How does the annotated point or selection address the competency indicator(s)? Type a description that explains your thinking and addresses any requirements stated in the competency indicator. If required, you should tag Competency Indicator(s) to each annotation by clicking +Tag Indicator. Please note, only annotation competency indicators will be visible when tagging.
BloomBoard Video Annotation Tool
STEP 1. In the Build Artifacts (Exercise) section, complete the video artifact and upload using the "Upload Artifact/s" button.
STEP 2. Begin to play the video to identify the sections of the video that align with the Competency Indicators. Alternatively, you can fast forward the video to sections you have previously identified. Note the time ranges where competency indicators occur.
STEP 3. Click “Annotate a time” to pause the video and open the annotation tool. Alternatively, you can manually enter the timestamps within the annotation tool. Mark a beginning timestamp and ending timestamp of a minimum 3 second range. Timestamps must include a range of time, otherwise, the artifact will be pre-assessed as Not Met / Incomplete.
Friendly Reminders:
- You will not be able to send your artifact to your portfolio until you have +tagged all of the required annotation Competency Indicators to at least one annotation. More information can be found in the support article Why Can’t I Send My Artifact to My Portfolio?
- Every artifact does not require annotation. If the artifact’s directions do not specifically state that annotating is required, the annotation tool is not available for that artifact. More information can be found in the support article Why Can’t I Annotate Every Artifact or Tag Every Competency Indicator?
- Every artifact does not require you to +tag a Competency Indicator. In some cases, the artifact’s directions only require you to annotate your thoughts. If the directions do not specifically state to +tag your annotations to a competency indicator, that feature is not available for that artifact. More information can be found in the support article Why Can’t I Annotate Every Artifact or Tag Every Competency Indicator?
- When the +Tag Indicator tool is available, not every Competency Indicator can be tagged. Only specific competency indicators are required to be tagged to an uploaded artifact. These competency indicators have a blue annotation button. More information can be found in the support article Why Can’t I Annotate Every Artifact or Tag Every Competency Indicator?
