An artifact is physical documentation (document, video, image, etc.) developed to demonstrate specific knowledge and skills. Together the collection of artifacts makes up the participant’s portfolio of evidence that they submit to demonstrate competency within a micro-credential.
Artifact tags are listed within the Getting Started Page in the Artifacts in This Portfolio section in order to help you plan for each artifact. These tags will give you additional information about artifacts that will allow you to better prepare for submission. 
- Requires annotation - Used when you will be required to annotate an artifact by tagging competency indicators or creating self-generated annotations to provide assessors with additional information to demonstrate competency.
- Dependent artifact - Used when an artifact is a dependent artifact. Dependent artifacts are interconnected in such a way that the participant cannot demonstrate competency on a dependent artifact until the competency indicators of a separate, related artifact have been met.
- Student work required - Used when samples of authentic student work must be submitted.
- Classroom image required - Used when an image of your classroom or students must be submitted.
- Classroom video required - Used when a video featuring your classroom or students must be submitted.
- Can be earned during school breaks - Used when the micro-credential artifacts can be completed outside of the school calendar. Artifacts will not ask for student work or classroom videos.
- Ideal for beginning of year/semester - Used when the competency being demonstrated includes knowledge or skills that are best suited for the beginning of the school year or semester.
- Artifacts require set implementation period - Used when the micro-credential includes a cycle or implementation period that may require a set amount of time to pass between start and completion when creating artifacts.
